CAMPUS HOUSING

The Language Institute can assist students with a variety of housing options, including

Georgia Tech Dormitories and Apartments
Living on campus is an excellent way to practice English. When rooms are available, students will be assigned to the same dormitories as regular Georgia Tech students, so there will be plenty of opportunities to practice English.

Language Institute students can usually live on campus from January to August (Spring 1 & 2 and Summer sessions)—it all depends on room availability. Room requests must be made to the Language Institute. Contact lihousing@esl.gatech.edu to learn about room availability.

Dormitory Styles

  • Traditional: (females only) Students share a room with another student and use the community bathroom on each floor.
  • Suite: Students share a room with another student and a bathroom with another room. The bathroom separates the two rooms.
  • Apartments: Students have an individual room, but share their bathroom with one or two other students. All apartments have four or six bedrooms. All apartment residents share a living room, dining area, and kitchen. The cost is approximately $3,163 a semester (4 months).

Please note that space is limited in traditional- and suite-style dorms. The Department of Housing places most ESL students in apartments.

Each dormitory has a common study lounge, small kitchen, workout room and laundry facilities. Check with the Language Institute student advisor for an up-to-date price list.

American Homes

Another excellent way to practice English is to live in an American home. Most of our students who choose to do so, work with a private homestay agency, Atlanta Homestays, to make the arrangements before arriving here.

All homes are accessible by MARTA, Atlanta's public transportation system.

Two options are available.

  • Private furnished room plus breakfast and dinner.
  • Private furnished room plus breakfast.

Note that the homestay agency charges a placement fee. For more information about homestays, contact Lory Wilson, directly at info@atlantahomestays.com

Apartments/Rooms/Roommates

Unfurnished one-bedroom apartments in Atlanta generally cost $650-$800 per month. Two-bedroom unfurnished apartments cost approximately $800-$1,000 per month.

Most apartments come with a refrigerator, a stove, an oven, and some kind of window covering. Residents must provide everything else. Furniture rental for a one-bedroom is approximately $125 per month. Most properties require residents to sign a lease (contract) for a minimum of six months.

The Atlanta Apartment Guide is a useful reference to apartments in and around the city. Apartments near Georgia Tech, are in the Midtown, Buckhead, and North Atlanta areas. The Georgia Tech Off-Campus Housing Directory is also a good reference.

Georgia State University Off-Campus Housing
Georgia State University Off-Campus Housing Options also has apartments and roommate information. Georgia State is located about 2.5 miles south of Georgia Tech, which means many Georgia Tech and GSU students live in the same areas.

Craigslist
Many people use Craigslist to find apartments, roommates, furniture, and more

Leasing an Apartment

Leasing an apartment in Atlanta can be difficult without a Social Security Number, employment, credit or rental history, or a co-signer in the United States.

The following apartments do rent to students who are legally in the United States with an F-1 visa. We are working to identify other places that also rent to students under these circumstances.
