How to Apply

Applying to the Language Institute’s Intensive English Program is simple...

These instructions apply to F-1 and non-F-1 students applying for the Intensive English Program only. 

If you are interested in the spring or summer short courses, evening classes or graduate student workshops, click on the particular program link on the left.

 


 

Applying to the Intensive English Program
F-1 Visa Students Non-F-1 Students
Complete application form. Complete application form.
Make a copy of your passport information page. (Include copies for immediate family members who will accompany you.) Make a copy of your passport information page, Visa, and I-94 page or resident alien card.
Get bank document proving you have a minimum of $4,062 for each session you plan to study in the United States. N/A
Choose a payment option for the $100 nonrefundable application fee and the $40 International Express Mail Service fee (if applicable). Choose a payment option for the $100 nonrefundable application fee.
Send application form, $100 application fee, $40 International Express Mail Serivce fee (if applicable), passport copy, and bank document to the Language Institute. Send application form, $100 application fee, and a copy of passport information/resident alien card to the Language Institute.

Getting Your Visa
After your documents have been received, the Language Institute will send you an I-20 form. N/A
Complete the I-20 form and pay the $100 SEVIS fee at www.fmjfee.com/index.jhtml. N/A
Go to the nearest American Embassy or Consulate to apply for your visa. N/A

Transferring to the Language Institute’s Intensive English Program is simple...

Your current school must update your SEVIS record within 60 days of your completing their program. Please plan ahead and submit your complete application well before that 60-day period so your SEVIS record can be transferred to the Language Institute with an active status.

F-1 Visa Students Transferring to the Intensive English Program
Download and complete application form.
Download and complete the top part of the Transfer Clearance Form and have the international student adviser of your current school complete the remainder of the form.
Make copies of the following:
1. passport information page
2. visa page
3. I-94
Include copies for any immediate family members who have accompanied you
Provide a financial document proving you have a minimum of $4,064 for each session you plan to study in the United States.
Make copies of all I-20 forms, both current and past.
Provide copies of transcripts from all schools and programs you have attended in the United States.
Provide copies of all your medical and immunization documents.
Choose a payment option for the $100 nonrefundable application fee.
Send application form, transfer clearance form, passport information, visa and I-94 pages, financial document, I-20 forms, transcripts, medical documents, and $100 application fee to the Language Institute by mail or fax.
